While much about starting the Belmont gym excites me, nothing’s energized me more the past few weeks than finalizing around 90% of my equipment purchases. Admittedly, some of that excitement was of the slightly-nervous variety (this stuff ain’t cheap), but lots of thought, discussion and collaboration went into the process and I couldn’t be more pleased with the result.
Over the next few blog posts I’ll be highlighting a majority of what you’ll see in your gym. But first, it’s imperative I give a brief talk on some principles behind the purchases.
Our gym’s overall conscientious concept doesn’t stop with grid-tied cardio equipment, a local, neighborhood presence and friendly vibe. My goal has always been to bring you the best equipment I can and fortunately, the very best equipment happens to be the most functional in almost every way. What does “functional” mean? As a fitness specialist, functional equipment gives you the chance to work the most important muscles in your body first (typically bigger muscle groups) with assistance from smaller muscle groups, including what we all know as your “core,” (anterior and posterior muscles both deep and superficial from your thighs to your chest responsible for extenstion, flexion, lateral movement, rotation and stabilization). Functional machines allow for the most functional movements, meaning simply enough, you are moving your body in ways it moves in every day life outside the gym. 99% of your life will be spent outside the gym so fitness facility exercise should provide real world benefits. You want (and need) to perform movements in the gym with the goal of ultimately noticing when, for example, you start effortlessly walking the stairs, carrying grocery bags or your kids around with more ease or feeling more balanced and stable on your bike. And finally, as a gym owner, functional equipment looks great and works great, but is also designed without bells and whistles, pointless attachments and excess, superficial materials. And as you can probably guess, it doesn’t take up more space than it needs.
I think you get the point. Your quality equipment will be functional and efficient in a variety of ways, ways very consistent with how The Green Microgym chooses to operate.
First up? From LifeFitness, a Cable Motion Dual Adjustable Pulley machine! One of my favorite pieces. One of the most functional and versatile in the industry.
